MassTech, Inc. is proud to announce our newest product – a SubAP/MALDI(ng) ion source designed for mass spectrometry imaging (MSI) applications with high spatial resolution. This MALDI source operates at pressures from 1 to 10 Torr and is characterized by higher sensitivity compared to AP-MALDI sources (see App Note). The SubAP/MALDI(ng) includes an ion funnel interface for efficient collection and transfer of ions into the mass spectrometer.

The SubAP/MALDI(ng) platform is available for Thermo Fisher mass spectrometers with IMAX ion source interface currently utilized for high mass resolution analysis (Orbitrap® and Q Exactive®) as well as low mass resolution Thermo Fisher instruments such as LTQTM and VelosTM. The SubAP/MALDI(ng) platform comprises an XY stage and sample holder accommodating a 192-position SCIEX OptiTOF plate or a microscopic slide. An optical part includes an ultra-compact laser, beam attenuator, mirrors, and focusing lenses. The Nd:YAG laser used in SubAP/MALDI(ng) source operates at 355 nm wavelength. Its repetition rate can be varied between 100 and 10,000 Hz. The entire optical part and XY stages are conveniently incorporated into a single lightweight housing. A 10-turn dial is used to vary the diameter of laser spot that in a SubAP/MALDI(ng) UHR product can be made as small as 10 micrometers.

In its basic configuration SubAP/MALDI(ng) platform does not require any additional pump. As an option, in addition to SubAP/MALDI(ng), a standard IMAX interface is available to use standard ESI or other AP sources which require an additional pumping. SubAP/MALDI(ng) source can be switched to ESI one and back in a minute.

The sub-atmospheric pressure MALDI system provides a user with the excellent spatial resolution and the highest sensitivity at an unmatchable price.
