On 19 September 2006, SESI was awarded a $4.0M contract by the US Army RDECOM Acquisition Center under the Joint PEO for Chemical and Biological Defense.

The award is for Phase II development of Wide-Spectrum Bio-ID, a broadband approach for rapid detection and identification of biological agents through integration of proteomics, atmospheric pressure (AP) matrix assisted laser desorption/ionization (MALDI) tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS), and bio-informatics. Key partners include University of Maryland at College Park, Signature Science, and SAIC-EAI.
